David Bonbright currently works with two brilliant organizations, Ashoka (Ashoka.org) and Deep Fathom to create the Capabilities Trust.
He is a social entrepreneur whose over four decades of work focus on organizational effectiveness through a lens of mutuality. He creates frameworks, tools and delivery vehicles to do the work of “social change” with people, not to people or for people.
In the early 90s he led processes from inside South African civil society to make the transition from confront Apartheid to partnering in a democracy, including founding or co-founding several NGOs supporting internet communications (SANGONet), legal protection (the NGO Bill), organized philanthropy (South African Grantmakers Association), and civil society self-organization (South African NGO Coalition).
In the noughties he founded Keystone Accountability to develop Constituent Voice as an alternative operating system for organizational performance management. Constituent Voice® has been widely adopted by development banks, government aid agencies, foundations and nonprofits around the world.
In addition to organizations that he has founded, he has served as grantmaker and program designer with the Ford Foundation, Ashoka, and the Aga Khan Foundation.
From his twin leadership roles at Ashoka and Deep Fathom, he is currently pioneering the Systems Impact Measurement model that renders current behaviours in social change interventions into a maturity index of the likelihood that the intervention will achieve its intended outcomes.
